TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Three people are dead after an SUV slammed into a utility pole in Tempe on Sunday afternoon.
On Monday, police identified the victims as 70-year-old Jackie Holbrook, who was driving, 23-year-old Jonathon Holbrook, the front seat passenger, and 21-year-old Hope Baylee Kropf, who was in the backseat.
Police say an SUV collided with a traffic signal support pole and caught fire shortly before 5 p.m. in the median of Priest Drive and the Loop 202.
When officers arrived, the SUV was engulfed in flames, and good Samaritans were removing two people from the vehicle. A third person was trapped in the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene.
The two others were taken to area hospitals, where they later died.
Police believe speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
