The Bear’s Matty Matheson Had Hilarious First Encounter with Jamie Lee Curtis – Journal Important Internet

The Bear star Matty Matheson has an epic tale when it comes to his first time meeting Jamie Lee Curtis!

Speaking to Variety, the Canadian celebrity chef and restaurateur-turned-actor, 42, opened up on meeting the star before she appeared as a guest on the hit Hulu series.

“The first time I saw Jamie was at the Golden Globes or something, before she came on the second season,” Matheson said, calling the moment “crazy” in the interview published on Thursday, June 27.

The actor, who plays handyman Neil Fak in the drama, recalled being at the event and asking The Bear series creator Christopher Storer for advice on how to approach Curtis, 65.

“We were in the ballroom, and there weren’t a lot of people in there. I called Chris and was like, ‘Can I just go up and say hello to her?’ And he was like, ‘For sure! Go say what’s up!’ ” Matheson told Variety.

Little did he know, he’d already made quite the impression on the Halloween alum.

“As I was walking up to her, she pointed at me and was like, ‘I know who the f— you are! Get over here!’” he recalled.

From there, the rest was history.

“We just hit it off. She’s so sweet. She’s our big mama. She hangs with us the whole time, even when she’s not on screen. Being around someone like that, a true icon, is amazing,” Matheson said of Curtis.

He added that her 1983 comedy Trading Places was his family’s favorite film when he was younger.

In the movie, Curtis starred opposite Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. The plot follows “one twisted bet” that takes an executive and a con man out of their usual environment and into each other’s opposite worlds.

“We loved that movie growing up. Never in a million years — and now we’re friends! We’re texting! She really is an incredible person,” Matheson said.

While season 3 was released this week, Matheson added that season 4 is also done filming. That makes it challenging to not drop spoilers about things that haven’t happened yet when talking to the press.

“We can’t talk about a bunch of stuff. But I kind of forget everything, which is perfect because I’m like, ‘I don’t even know.’ I haven’t even watched the season, actually,” he confessed. “I’ve seen some edits and some early episodes, but I’ve only seen Episodes 1 through 4, really.”

All 10 episodes of The Bear season 3 are now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
